Sauna safety and comfort

• Parking and toilets at Mytholmroyd Community & Leisure Centre are available for sauna users.

• Please shower before using the sauna.

• Please remove your shoes before entering - bring flip flops for inside if you like.

• Jewellery (or any metal) should be removed before entering the sauna, to prevent burning.

• Please bring water, a towel to sit on in the sauna and another one for drying off afterwards.

• There’s room to change in the toilets and there’s a 1 person change tent next to the sauna.

• Enter and exit the sauna with care.

The following are not allowed in the sauna:

• Alcohol, smoking or vaping

• Essential oils - unless you’ve already asked.

• Hair, body oils, lotions or other products

• Food

• Nudity is allowed in privately hired sauna sessions - it’s up to you to consult with the rest of your group!

Managing the heat

• The sauna is wood-fired, extremely hot and should be treated with respect. Please do not touch any part of the chimney or stove.

• Rotate seats - the top bench is the hottest - lower benches are cooler.

• Take as many breaks as you like, stand outside for a bit, or sluice - buckets with cold water are available for sluicing

• Don’t treat it as an endurance test. Regular sauna users gradually build tolerance to high temperatures. When you’ve had enough, call it a day!
